Originally diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 13, Casey O’Brien has been overcoming obstacles for nearly all of his young life.

On Saturday, his perseverance was rewarded with an experience a long time in the making: Appearing in a game for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

A redshirt sophomore placeholder, O’Brien took the field in the fourth quarter of Minnesota’s victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Here are a couple of videos, from Minnesota on BTN and our own Dustin Schutte:

Improving to 7-0 with the convincing win, the Gophers are headed toward the best season of P.J. Fleck’s three-year tenure.

One of just three unbeaten B1G teams following Wisconsin’s stunning loss to Illinois, Minnesota returns home to face Maryland on October 26.
