Iowa got off to a really nice start to 2019, winnings its first four games. The Hawkeyes then lost two straight games and, of course, the world was ending.
Iowa got a victory this past week, though, against Purdue, and is now 5-2 overall. The Hawkeyes have had a bit of a struggle offensively as of late, but one bright spot has been wide receiver Brandon Smith. Smith has led the team in receiving this season with 33 catches for 407 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Defensively, Iowa has had linebacker Kristian Welch helping lead the way, amassing a team-leading 46 tackles through the first seven games. Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, though, both Smith and Welch were not seen on the team’s most recent depth chart:

Iowa is set to play Northwestern on the road on Saturday, Oct. 26 and may be without both its top receiver and tackler. This, of course, could set the Hawkeyes back a bit. Smith suffered a lower right leg injury in the team’s win over Purdue, while Welch suffered an injury during the week of the Penn State game and didn’t play against the Boilermakers a week ago.
Northwestern is 1-5 going into the game, has lost its last four contests and is coming off a 52-3 loss to Ohio State.
