Former Michigan defensive back Ty Law is Ann Arbor this weekend and gave a motivational speech to the team Friday prior to the Wolverines facing Notre Dame on Saturday.
But in addition to offering support to the program, Law said some things to the media that could be construed as harsh criticism, particularly when discussing the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry.
“It’s frustrating because it’s not supposed to happen,” Law said of the recent Ohio State dominance over Michigan according to The Detroit News. “I’ve been the rivalry for three years. I was 1-1-1. It always came down to a very tough game. The whippings they’ve been putting on us for that many years in a row, it’s unacceptable, because we gotta hear it in the locker room. Tom (Brady) and I talk about it now. We get pissed off, we get frustrated. At least he’s still playing to where he ain’t got too much time to think about it. And you’ve got to wait a whole another year again, that’s a long time to wait and to have to hear it.”
Michigan went undefeated during Law’s freshman season in 1992, but the Wolverines tied three games, including one against Ohio State. The Wolverines were 8-4 during Law’s two other college seasons.
In the 1990’s, Michigan went 7-2-1 against Ohio State, but since then, the Buckeyes own a 16-3 mark against the Wolverines. Ohio State has won 14 of the last 15 matchups, including seven straight in the rivalry.
