Kamal Martin’s status for Minnesota’s top 15 showdown against Penn State on Saturday is still up in the air, head coach P.J. Fleck said on Monday.
According to TwinCities.com, Fleck said Martin has been “getting a lot better” and could return to the field this weekend as the 8-0 Gophers take on the Nittany Lions, also 8-0. But a decision likely won’t be made until Saturday.
“[Kamal Martin] made tons of progress last week…It’s probably going to be more toward that game-time decision,” Fleck said.
Martin was injured in Minnesota’s 42-7 victory over Rutgers on Oct. 19. He did not play the following week against Maryland, but the Gophers cruised to a 52-10 win anyway. He was injured in the second half against the Scarlet Knights.
This season, Martin has registered 46 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Minnesota and Penn State will go head-to-head on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET. The game will air on ABC.
