It all started 150 years ago today. On November 6, 1869, Rutgers and Princeton started the wonderful game of college football, which has now become one of the most popular sports in the country.
Rutgers defeated Princeton 6-4 in the first ever college football game 150 years ago. Still today, the program lives by the slogan “The birthplace of college football.”

The 150th anniversary of college football has been celebrated all year long in a number of different ways. Students from Rutgers and Princeton recreated the first ever college football game 150 years ago. Teams are wearing patches with the “CFB 150” logo on their jerseys every week. ESPN has run a series on celebrating the best players, teams, traditions and other items celebrating the anniversary.
It’s been a fun little addition to the best sport in America.
