Ohio State coach Ryan Day is off to a terrific start with the Buckeyes. So much so that he’s on the verge of coaching history at Ohio State.

Day has won 12 straight to begin his head coaching career. Assuming the Buckeyes beat Rutgers this Saturday, Day will move into second place on the Ohio State coaching list for most consecutive victories to start a tenure.

Ohio State is 9-0 this season, but Day earned three victories last year as well when he served as Ohio State’s active head coach while Urban Meyer was suspended.

Should Day and the Buckeyes keep winning, they’ll have a shot at the national championship, which Meyer didn’t even accomplish in his first season at Ohio State in 2012. The Buckeyes were ruled ineligible that year, so they didn’t make the postseason with Meyer until 2013, going 12-2 in Meyer’s second season.

In addition to Rutgers, Ohio State has No. 9 Penn State and No. 14 Michigan remaining on the 2019 schedule.
