There’s been plenty of speculation about Chase Young’s recent suspension by the NCAA, after the Ohio State defensive end borrowed money from a family friend to fly his girlfriend to the Rose Bowl last season. Some have speculated that a Maryland staffer may have leaked the information.
Young, of course, grew up in the Washington D.C. area
It was speculated that Maryland assistant coach Elijah Brooks may have been responsible for leaking the information, which led to Young’s suspension Saturday against the Terrapins — and potentially longer. Brooks was Young’s high school coach, leading to speculation from the Bucknuts Morning Five podcast.
Brooks issued a statement on Twitter to clear the air.
“All of my current and former players are like sons to me,” Brooks wrote. “No job or school would ever jeopardize the love we have for each other. Everything outside of that is NOISE.”

Young’s absence didn’t matter much on Saturday, with Ohio State boat-racing the Terrapins 73-14 in Columbus. The Buckeyes improved to 9-0 with the win.
As of Wednesday morning, there was still no ruling on Young’s suspension length from the NCAA. Ohio State won’t really need him on the field Saturday, as they travel to Rutgers. The following two weeks, though, the Buckeyes take on Penn State and Michigan, and will need him on the field.
Ryan Day says Young is practicing as if he’ll play on Saturday but has received no update on the situation.
