Final score: #2 Ohio State 56 Rutgers 21

Brief recap: Ohio State exerted its dominance from the opening kickoff in Piscataway. On the second play of the game, Shaun Wade made a remarkable interception, and just a few plays later, J.K. Dobbins raced 18 yards to the end zone for the first score of the game. Ohio State jumped out to a 21-0 lead before Rutgers got on the scoreboard. A muffed punt return by Garrett Wilson got the Scarlet Knights in striking distance. Isaih Pacheco scored from 26 yards out to make the score 21-7, it was the first time the Buckeyes have allowed a touchdown in the first quarter of a game this season. But that was really the only excitement of the day. Ohio State was ahead 35-7 at halftime and continued to pour it on in the second half, cruising to their 10th victory of the season.

Key moment: Wade’s interception on the second play of the game pretty much showed the difference in athleticism between the two teams. Rutgers tried to take a chance early in the game and catch the Buckeyes off guard, but it didn’t work.

Key stat: Rutgers’ three turnovers were pretty significant. In order to have any chance, the Scarlet Knights needed to play a clean game and take care of the football. They did not do that.

Key player: Justin Fields threw for over 300 yards for the first time in his career, completing 15-of-19 pass attempts for 305 yards and four touchdowns. The best outing of his career comes one week before the biggest game of his career.

What it means for Rutgers: Give some credit to Rutgers, it scored a first quarter touchdown and reached the end zone twice against a pretty good Ohio State defense. Maybe that’s a pretty small trophy to be playing for, there wasn’t really any chance the Scarlet Knights were going to win this game. Take those small victories where you can get them.

What it means for Ohio State: Nothing really changed from a week ago. The Buckeyes biggest challenge of the season still lies ahead, with No. 9 Penn State coming to town next Saturday. The B1G East is hanging in the balance. A win, and the Bucks have locked up a trip to Indianapolis.
