James Franklin discusses Sean Clifford receiving death threats: 'I don't see why it's acceptable'

Penn State is 9-1 overall. It has lost one game this season and was ranked at No. 4 in the country at one point in time.

Currently, the Nittany Lions are ranked No. 9. Why? They lost to Minnesota on the road 31-26. What happened after the loss?

Penn State QB Sean Clifford received death threats.

College football fans can be crazy. When a team loses one game by five points, it makes people do things that nobody should. In this instance, it’s sending death threats.

This is in no way a correct thing to do, regardless of what the situation is. On Tuesday, Penn State coach James Franklin addressed the matter:

"Whether you've had 14 Budweisers or not. I don't see why it's acceptable," Franklin said of the threats.

JF: You see some things is society now that we're accepting "that I don't know why we're accepting." Death threats a microcosm of a lot of other things going on in society.

Franklin: "It's concerning and you see it everywhere. We laugh about it. Not this instance. … I don't know if I have an answer for it but it's troubling. It's concerning for all of us. … That's kind of where we are right now things get extreme."

Franklin said that anytime something like this happens to one of his players, he wants to be there:

Franklin on Sean Clifford saying he received death threats. "I would hope I'm involved in any of these things where our players need support." Franklin said Saturday when he was thanking the positive, supportive fans (it wasn't so subtle) that's what he was talking about.

Franklin is always there for his players. His players likely know that. That’s what makes Penn State what it is under Franklin — an elite program.

You are consistently seeing the Nittany Lions in or just outside the top 10 nowadays. Franklin being who he is certainly plays a role in that.
