The Bronko Nagurski Trophy has narrowed down its list of finalists to five names, and two of those are players who hail from the B1G.
On Wednesday, five players were named finalists for the Nagurski Trophy, awarded to the best defensive player in college football. The two B1G names are Minnesota safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.
Here are the five finalists for the award:
- Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn
- J.R. Reed, S, Georgia
- Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson
- Antoine Winfield Jr., S, Minnesota
- Chase Young, DE, Ohio State
Winfield had has an outstanding year in the secondary, registered seven interceptions this season, second-most in the nation. He’s also tallied 65 tackles, two sacks and forced a fumble through 10 games this season.
Young has been considered a Heisman Trophy candidate this year with his dominant play. His 13.5 sacks total is second-highest in FBS and he’s forced five fumbles and blocked a field goal.
Both B1G stars are worthy of consideration.
