It will be hard to find a closer series in recent history than the one between Ohio State and Penn State.

Over the past three seasons, the games between the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions have been decided by a total of five points. That includes back-to-back one-point victories by Ohio State in 2017-18.

The 2019 matchup will also be the third straight game in the series between top-10 teams. Ohio State enters as the No. 2 team on the College Football Playoff Rankings while Penn State is at No. 8.

On Wednesday evening, Urban Meyer was asked about the recent series between the two schools. He admitted it is a rivalry of sorts and has developed into a game that features two top B1G teams facing off:

“Certainly over the last few years, just because of the quality of team that Penn State is, that’s become a war…my goodness, two very good teams, two very good programs,” explained Meyer. “Great players all over the field. It’s become a rivalry in a sense, but not in Ohio State’s – we know which one that is coming up next week.”

He went on to provide more of a breakdown of the upcoming matchup. You can check it out in the BTN segment below:

Meyer knows a thing or two about the rivalry, posting a 6-1 record against Penn State while with the Buckeyes. This will be Ryan Day’s first game as head coach against the Nittany Lions.
