Paul Finebaum: CFP Committee ‘has sold out’ if Alabama is not fifth on Tuesday’s rankings

Paul Finebaum is once again stating he is high on Alabama while also taking a shot at anyone that has the Crimson Tide ranked below No. 5.
During Tuesday’s airing of The Paul Finebaum Show, Finebaum and a caller discussed Alabama’s current ranking and potential comparison to a one-loss Utah squad. During that discussion, Finebaum threw some shade at anyone in the media that has Alabama outside of the top five:
“I’m not gonna name all the names because they’re all easy to find, but when you see someone put Alabama eighth, or sixth, or seventh, they’re just hating on Alabama,” said Finebaum. “And I know the nation will rise up and go ‘Oh, there’s Paul Finebaum, he’s a Nick Saban apologist.’ I’m not a Nick Saban apologist, I’m just speaking the truth. I’m speaking the truth based on what I see, and what I think you’ll see tonight.”
Finebaum went on to say that Alabama dropping outside of the No. 5 slot on Tuesday’s CFP Rankings would indicate the Committee “has sold out.” In fact, Finebaum believes the argument could be made that Alabama belongs in the No. 4 slot as opposed to dropping to the No. 6 slot:
“If Alabama is not fifth, then I believe this Committee has sold out,” explained Finebaum. “In fact, I really do think you could make an argument, I’m not sure you would have a winning argument, but the real debate is whether Alabama should be fourth as opposed to sixth.”
Despite Finebaum’s comments, it should not be a foregone conclusion that Alabama deserves to be a top-four or top-five team. Alabama’s non-conference schedule consisted of a 4-7 Duke team, New Mexico State, Southern Miss, and Western Carolina. Beyond that, Alabama’s current best win is against a four-loss Texas A&M squad.
