It sounds like David Blough may be preparing for his first career NFL start on Thanksgiving Day!

The former quarterback of the Purdue Boilermakers is now with the Detroit Lions. He has been buried on the depth chart for much of the season, but a string of injuries has opened up some possibilities for Blough.

Starting QB Matt Stafford continues to be sidelined and is on the mend from a back issue. Backup QB Jeff Driskel has started in place of Stafford, but he is currently dealing with a hamstring injury.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the injury to Driskel has opened the door for Blough to start on Thursday. The Lions kickoff against the Chicago Bears at 12:30 pm EST on FOX.

UPDATE

The Lions confirmed via their official Twitter page that Blough will indeed start Thursday’s game against the Bears:

Blough finished his career at Purdue in 2018. He threw for 9,734 yards and 69 touchdowns, finishing fourth and third on the school’s all-time list in those categories.
