That win turned into a nail-biter!

Despite an early 24-10 lead, Iowa needed all 60 minutes to secure a win over Nebraska. The Cornhuskers fought back after halftime with 14-unanswered points in the third quarter and held the Hawkeyes scoreless for 29:59 of game time in the second half.

However, that one second was on the clock as Keith Duncan’s game-winning field goal sailed through the uprights. It gave Iowa another win in the rivalry series, and head coach Kirk Ferentz addressed the hard-fought win during a post-game interview down on the field.

He particularly praised Iowa’s ability to stand tall against Nebraska’s comeback:

“Two straight years, comes down to the last play…they fought like heck, credit to them, but our guys stood tall and finished it off,” explained Ferentz.

“We had some self-inflicted wounds, which is tough. They were playing hard, they forced some of that stuff. Our guys regrouped, made that big play at the end, and Dunc came through…It’s just great to win. Earning it was tough today.”

Iowa on BTN shared Ferentz’s comments:

Now, the 9-3 Hawkeyes will sit and wait to find out where they go bowling in the postseason. Nebraska will miss a bowl after finishing 5-7.
