Making both of his field goal attempts – one from 49 yards and the other from 48 – redshirt junior Keith Duncan played a pivotal role in the No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes’ 27-24 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln on November 29.

Duncan’s 48-yarder sailed through the uprights with just one second remaining in Friday’s action to give the Hawkeyes nine wins for the second consecutive season.

After lifting Iowa to the rivalry victory, Duncan found out another piece of sweet news: He has been placed on an athletic scholarship.

Hawkeye Nation’s Rob Howe had first on the news:

A native of Weddington, North Carolina, Duncan has had about as unusual of a college football career as you can have. Appearing in all 13 games as a freshman, he etched his name in history by kicking a game-winning field goal over the then-No. 3 Michigan Wolverines on November 12, 2016.

Despite his immediate success in Iowa City, Duncan did not appear in a game in the 2017-18 seasons. Winning the starting job in camp leading into this season, he has posted the most prolific kicking season in B1G history, making 29-34 field goal attempts and all 25 of his extra points.

Rounding out their regular season at 9-3, the Hawkeyes reached the nine-win mark in the regular season for the first time since the 2015 season, when they advanced to the B1G Championship Game and fell to the Stanford Cardinal in the Rose Bowl.
