Announced attendance at Spartan Stadium the lowest for MSU home game in over 25 years

Michigan State didn’t get quite the crowd it had hoped to see for its season finale against Maryland on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans closed out the regular season with a 19-16 victory over Maryland, improving to 6-6 and becoming bowl eligible with the win. But rainy conditions, the holiday weekend, and a disappointing midseason stretch kept fans from entering Spartan Stadium.
According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, the announced attendance for Saturday’s game between Michigan State and Maryland was 51,366. Per Ryan Cole of 9 & 10 News, that is the lowest announced attendance for a Michigan State home football game since Nov. 14, 1992, when the Spartans beat Purdue in front of a crowd of 36,803.
Capacity at Spartan Stadium is 75,005.

Michigan State endured a five-game losing streak this year to fall to 4-6 heading into the final two weeks of the season. But the Spartans cranked out back-to-back wins over Rutgers and Maryland to end the year .500.
Now, the Spartans will await to see where they’re headed this bowl season.
