Paul Finebaum never really holds back when it comes to criticizing a head football coach. And in the case of Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, the SEC Network host really unleashed on Tuesday’s edition of ESPN’s Get Up!.
Over the weekend, Swinney went on a bit of a tirade following Clemson’s blowout win over South Carolina, criticizing the media for its perception of the program.
“How important is this game? It’s huge! It’s huge from a national standpoint because if we lose this game, they’re gonna kick us out (of the Playoff),” said Swinney. “They don’t want us in there anyway. We’d drop to 20. Georgia loses to this very same team, and the next day it’s ‘How do we keep Georgia in it?’ We WIN – to a team that beat South Carolina – and it’s ‘How do we get Clemson out?’ It’s the dadgummest thing.
“It’s big. They can’t vote us out. We’ve gotta go 30-0! We don’t got no choice! Because we don’t play nobody!”
Finebaum wasn’t a fan of Swinney’s outburst after Clemson’s season finale. He slammed the two-time national champion coach on Tuesday morning.
“I think Dabo Swinney is the most annoying winner in all of sports,” Finebaum said. “I mean the guy just can’t keep his trap shut. Somebody just give the man a pacifier, send him to timeout and we’ll check in with him on December 28th when he finally plays a legitimate team during this entire college football season.”
Pretty harsh words from the SEC Network host. But Swinney has come under some criticism for his comments and responses about the media’s perception of his team. In his defense, he’s standing up for his players, coaches and program.
Clearly, Finebaum has had enough. Below is video of Finebaum’s outburst on Tuesday.
