Ohio State’s Justin Fields finishes third in 2019 Heisman Trophy voting, Chase Young fourth
The 2019 Heisman Trophy finalists were made up of a unique group. Sure, there were three quarterbacks.
But, there was a defensive lineman in the mix as well. Ohio State actually had two of the finalists: Quarterback Justin Fields and defensive end Chase Young.
In the end, Fields and Young — as well as Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts — fell short in the Heisman voting to LSU QB Joe Burrow.

Burrow won the 2019 Heisman Trophy fairly easily in terms of voting, but behind Burrow, were Young, Fields and Hurts. The sensational Buckeye signal caller, Fields, finished the voting in third, while the Buckeye defensive end, Young, finished fourth. Hurts was second.

With Young’s fourth-place finish, he now marks the fifth defensive lineman to ever finish in the top four of Heisman voting. Here’s a look at the four previous defensive linemen to finish in the top four:
Chase Young becomes just the 5th defensive lineman to finish in the @HeismanTrophy Top 4, in last 50 years:
•Rich Glover, Nebraska (‘72, 3rd)
•Hugh Green, Pitt (‘80, 2nd)
•Steve Emtman, UW (‘91, 3rd)
•Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska (‘09, 4th)
•Chase Young, Ohio State (‘19, ???) pic.twitter.com/0cuJG7Kwby— Pick Six Previews (@PickSixPreviews) December 10, 2019
Young, through 11 games — because he missed two due to suspension — racked up 16.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and three pass deflections.
Fields, who led the Buckeye offense all season long, has completed 67.5% of his throws for 2,953 yards, 40 TD passing and just one interception. Fields has also run for 10 scores, giving him 50 TD accounted for compared to the one interception.
