Iowa is heading to the Holiday Bowl after another strong season under head coach Kirk Ferentz.

This year, the Hawkeyes won nine games and came very close to potentially winning the B1G West. All three of Iowa’s losses on the season came against ranked opponents with two of them on the road. In fact, the team was a failed two-point conversion attempt away from forcing overtime on the road against Wisconsin.

To end the season, Iowa went on a three-game winning streak that started with the upset of then-No. 7 Minnesota in Kinnick Stadium. It spoiled an undefeated season for the Gophers and was a big signature win on the season.

On Sunday, Hawkeye Football unveiled the list of season awards for the team. The two MVPs awarded went to QB Nate Stanley and DL A.J. Epenesa.

For Stanley, he is finishing a strong Iowa career while throwing for 2,738 yards and 14 touchdowns. For his career, Stanley has thrown for over 8,000 yards with 66 touchdowns. He is currently third on the Hawkeyes all-time passing list.

For Epenesa, he was able to put a slow start behind him and finish as the team leader in tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (9.0). He had 45 total tackles and three forced fumbles. Over the last three games of the season, Epenesa had eight tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
