The ongoing war of words between ESPN’s Pat McAfee and FOX’s Urban Meyer continues to rage on. This time, McAfee fired a shot at the former Ohio State head coach during Get Up! on Monday morning.
During the ESPN show, Meyer’s day at FedEx Field in the owner’s box with Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder was a topic of conversation. There has been plenty of speculation that Meyer could potentially be up for a head coaching position in the NFL, specifically with the Dallas Cowboys or in Washington.
McAfee weighed in on the likelihood of Meyer taking a job in the NFL, and that’s when he took a few shots at the recently retired college coach, referring to Meyer as a “bum” at one point.
“Urban Meyer took a shot at me out of nowhere whenever he was doing a very small interview for somebody, so I obviously think he’s a bum strictly because of that,” McAfee said on Get Up!.
McAfee then explained why Meyer may not be the best option to take over a job in the NFL.
“A lot of college coaches have not been able to transition into the NFL if they have no NFL experience,” McAfee said. “You saw with Saban, he left. [Bobby] Petrino, left. You name it. Whenever you have that authoritarian where you control every single moment of somebody’s life, which is what college coaches do…when it gets in the NFL, it’s just a different ball game having to handle that.
“Now, can he adjust to the modern NFL and having to deal with players making more money than him? Maybe. …This is what Urban Meyer has done at a lot of places, he’s gone in won, scandal, left. I don’t know if he can do that in the NFL.”
Obviously, McAfee has no issue taking some shots at Meyer.
All of this occurred recently, when Meyer was talking about his first season as an analyst on FOX, being one of the primary gurus on the FOX Big Noon Kickoff pregame show. The former head coach appeared to take a shot at McAfee in his interview.
Just interviewed Urban Meyer. At one point talked about this year doing tv, he says "I had fun – turns out folks wanna talk about football, they don't want to see jumpin' in lakes or goin on rollercoasters"
…
…I feel I may know what he was alluding to.

McAfee took a leap into a river during College GameDay’s trip to Baylor during the 2019 season, which appeared to be what Meyer was talking about.
After catching wind of Meyer’s comment, McAfee fired back on Twitter.
I know it can be hard to remember things but it was a river not a lake.
My mom as soon as it happened said “When you were in the air, I started having heart complications OUT OF NOWHERE”
She’s been completely fine ever since.. happy for her.
Anyways, thanks 4 watching Coach. https://t.co/7yjDJAlGIP
