Justin Fields wasn’t quite himself in the B1G Championship Game. The sophomore quarterback played well in the Buckeyes’ 34-21 win over Wisconsin, but his mobility was hindered by a knee injury sustained in the regular season finale against Michigan.
Fields still completed 19-of-31 pass attempts for 299 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Buckeyes to their third-straight B1G title. But he did take a few sacks from the Badgers, and gained just one rushing yard in the contest, his lowest total of the season.
The lack of mobility from the quarterback has some concerned about Fields as No. 2 Ohio State prepares for No. 3 Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 28. But head coach Ryan Day thinks his starting quarterback should be in pretty good shape by the time the game rolls around.
“I think with this rest, he’s going to be at 100 percent,” Day said of Fields.
Fields has used his legs multiple times throughout the season, keeping drives alive and picking up chunks of yardage on critical third downs this season. It’s been a huge reason why the Buckeyes have been so successful at moving the chains.
Along with his outstanding passing numbers, Fields has also accounted for 471 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. If he’s at full strength for the Fiesta Bowl, it obviously creates problems for the Clemson defense.
