Turnovers were the story in the first half of the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. Through the first 30 minutes alone, UCF and Marshall combined to score three defensive touchdowns.
UCF opened the game with a pick-six from Richie Grant in the first minute of the contest, giving the Knights a 7-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, with a 14-0 lead, UCF recovered a fumble and returned it 39 yards to the end zone to take a 21-0 lead.
It appeared as if the game was going to get out of control.
Things started to slow down a little bit for Marshall, and the Thundering Herd defense stepped up in a big way. In the second quarter, Micah Abraham intercepted a pass and returned it 75 yards to the end zone to make the score 21-7, keeping Marshall alive.
