ESPN’s Emmanuel Acho explains why Urban Meyer may not be the best fit to coach Dallas Cowboys

When it comes to a potential coaching change in Dallas, Urban Meyer has been a name that has surfaced repeatedly. The former Ohio State head coach has been a popular figure for more than a few potential NFL openings.

Because of a lackluster year from the Cowboys, many believe that owner Jerry Jones will move on from current head coach Jason Garrett and start searching for a replacement. Meyer’s name has come up regularly.

It makes sense, too. Meyer has been successful at all of his stops at the college level, winning at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State. He’s totaled three national titles and owns a career winning percentage of 85.4. He’s proven himself to be a great coach.

ESPN analyst Emmanuel Acho doesn’t think that Meyer would be the best candidate in Dallas, though. Acho agrees Meyer has the credentials to get the job done, but doesn’t know that Jones would allow Meyer the freedom to do his job to make the Cowboys successful.

“Meyer has won a lot and he knows what it takes to win. He has a recipe,” Acho said. “But Jerry Jones isn’t going to let you be the chef. He’s gonna come in there and be like ‘I got you more salt to that, Urban. Let’s add some pepper to that. How about some parsley?’

“So, when you talk about the guys that could be the next Cowboys head coach, it shouldn’t be Urban. Not a good recipe.”

Meyer, as well as current Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley, have been the two names that have circulated most with a potential vacancy with the Cowboys. And with the NFL regular season winding down, the rumors will only continue to spin.

It’ll be interesting to see if Meyer is a legitimate candidate and if he’d have serious interest in taking over in Dallas.
