Friday is the final media availability for teams ahead of the College Football Playoff, and Ryan Day and Dabo Swinney took their turn with the media in the morning.
The head coaches will face off for the first time in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday. Both are undefeated this season and the winner will advance to the CFP Final on Jan. 13.
During the media session, the head coaches were asked about the schedule for the CFP. As it currently stands, the date for the semifinal games continues to rotate. With this year’s schedule, teams have been at their destination all week long, especially noteworthy with the Christmas holiday during the week.
Swinney admitted he would prefer the games to be on New Year’s Day and would prefer to be able to spend Christmas at home with his family. Day agreed and would appreciate the consistency of having the semifinals on Jan. 1 every year.
Dabo on the biggest failing of the CFP to date, playing semis on closest Saturday before Jan 1: "I personally would like to be home for Christmas." Amen.

Ryan Day: “I’d like (the semifinals) to be on Jan. 1 and be consistent. It would be nice to keep a tradition going"

The schedule has felt particularly tight this season. With conference championships on Dec. 7, the Early Signing Period soon after, and the Christmas holiday, an extra week to rest and prepare would likely make a big difference for every team involved. Then again, keeping the current schedule may help keep anticipation for the semifinals extremely high.
