Michigan State may have gone 6-6 during the regular season. But to close out 2019, the Spartans played Wake Forest in the Pinstripe Bowl Friday afternoon.

The Demon Deacons entered the game averaging over 32 points per game and were held scoreless by the Michigan State defense in the second half to secure the Spartans’ 27-21 victory. After the game, the MVP was given out. And, it wasn’t to a Spartan defender.

It was to fifth-year quarterback Brian Lewerke:

Lewerke finished the game by going 26-of-37 for 320 yards and a touchdown. The Spartans needed all of Lewerke’s productivity, as one of the team’s touchdowns came from the defense on an incredible pick-six from a defensive lineman.
