It’s 2019 and many recruiting classes for 2020 are already locked in. A few recruits can change things, though. Not everybody has decided on the school they want to play for just yet.
Jalen Berger, a 4-star running back from Ramsey, N.J., is one of those recruits. On Friday night, he announced his top five:

According to 247Sports, Berger is a 6-foot, 205-pound back that ranks as the No. 11 ball-carrier in his class and the No. 2 player from the state of New Jersey regardless of position.

Wisconsin and Penn State made his top five as well as Rutgers. Wisconsin and Penn State — as well as LSU or Chip Kelly’s UCLA Bruins — getting a top running back prospect to commit shouldn’t shock anybody.
But, Rutgers? Berger being from New Jersey certainly helps, but it may speak to what Greg Schiano is selling in Piscataway as well. If Berger were to choose the Scarlet Knights, he would be the highest-rated player to sign there for 2020.
The Rutgers 2020 class can be found here. You can find Penn State’s here and Wisconsin’s here.
His decision is supposed to occur on Friday, Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. ET according to 247Sports.
