Ohio State already knows co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is leaving for Boston College, and it is now being reported that passing game coordinator and QB coach Mike Yurcich is leaving for a Big 12 opening.
According to a report by Dave Biddle with Bucknuts, Yurcich has been hired to be the offensive coordinator on Tom Herman’s Texas staff. Herman made a number of different changes to his staff following a disappointing season for the Longhorns.

Though Herman spent time as the OC at Ohio State from 2012-14, Herman and Yurcich have not served together at the collegiate level. The 2019 season was Yurcich’s lone time in Columbus, but he has Big 12 experience after spending 2013-18 as the OC at Oklahoma State.
Yurcich’s departure does leave another spot for Ryan Day to fill after just one season on the job. However, it doesn’t sound like the loss is expected to be a major one.
According to Biddle’s report, Day essentially encouraged Yurcich to look for a different job with sources claiming Yurcich is difficult to work with:
Multiple sources have told Bucknuts that OSU head coach Ryan Day informed Yurcich it would be in his best interest to look around for another job. One source said succinctly: “Yurcich is difficult to work with and rubbed some people the wrong way.”
Hopefully, Day and the Buckeyes are able to find the right person to replace Yurcich and improve Ohio State’s coaching staff.
