Paul Chryst says mistakes too costly for Wisconsin in Rose Bowl loss

Disciplined football is something Wisconsin prides itself on. When the Badgers protect the football and don’t make mental mistakes, they’re extremely tough to beat.
Mistakes were a theme for the Badgers in the Rose Bowl Game on New Year’s Day, though. At the end of the game, Wisconsin had four turnovers — three fumbles and one interception — and nine penalties. Oregon had just one turnover and two penalties.
In a game Oregon won 28-27, it made a huge difference. And Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst was certainly aware of how critical those mistakes were on Wednesday night.
“We didn’t overcome ourselves,” Chryst said following the game.
The Badgers had chances to win, but a fumbled punt attempt returned for a touchdown in the third quarter and another fumble in Wisconsin territory in the fourth quarter resulted in two scores for the Ducks. Those two plays ended up being the difference in the game.
An additional fumble and interception didn’t help matters.
Wisconsin still ended the season with a 10-4 record, won the B1G West and competed for a conference and Rose Bowl title. It was a great bounce-back year for Chryst and the Badgers.
