A Michigan State linebacker is exploring other options following the end of the 2019 season.

On Thursday, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press confirmed that linebacker Ed Warinner Jr. has entered his name in the NCAA transfer. He is the son of current Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner.

Warinner played in seven games for the Spartans as a redshirt freshman, making most of those appearances on special teams. He finished the year with three tackles and was listed as third on the depth-chart for Michigan State’s Pinstripe Bowl game against Wake Forest.

The Spartans defeated the Demon Deacons 27-21.

At 6-foot-, 230 pounds, Warinner came to Michigan State from Powell, Ohio. He was a three-star member of the 2018 recruiting class and was listed as the No. 51 inside linebacker of the class, according to 247Sports. He also ranked as one of the top 50 players out of the state of Ohio.

Warinner could still return to Michigan State if it’s his best option. He’s now the ninth player from East Lansing to search for another opportunity.
