With the college football postseason winding down, it’s time to start looking ahead to the 2020 season. A lot of way-too-early rankings and predictions are already beginning to trickle out.

This week, Pro Football Focus released its list of the top 10 quarterbacks who will be returning to the field for the 2020 season. Unsurprisingly, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is at the top of that list with an undefeated career record and a shot at a second national championship as the Tigers take on LSU for the title on Jan. 13.

Three B1G quarterbacks did accompany Lawrence on the list of 10 from PFF — Ohio State’s Justin Fields, Minnesota’s Tanner Morgan and Indiana’s Peyton Ramsey/Michael Penix Jr. The Hoosiers started both quarterbacks throughout the season, due to Penix’s injuries.

Here’s where those quarterbacks ranked:

  • No. 2: Justin Fields, Ohio State
  • No. 5: Tanner Morgan, Minnesota
  • No. 9: Michael Penix Jr./Peyton Ramsey, Indiana

Fields guided Ohio State to a 13-1 record, a B1G title and an appearance in the College Football Playoff. He finished the season accounting for 51 total touchdowns with just three interceptions. He threw for 3,273 yards and rushed for an additional 484.

Morgan helped lead the Gophers to their best season in a century, ending the year with an 11-2 record and a win in the Outback Bowl. The sophomore was the B1G’s second-leading passer with 3,253 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Penix and Ramsey were incredibly effective in Kalen DeBoer’s offense at Indiana. Ramsey played in 11 contests while Penix appeared in seven. Combined, the two threw for 3,848 yards and 23 touchdowns while completing 68.5 percent of their passes.
