It’s been a long time since neither Alabama nor New England has won a championship

A streak has come to an end in the football world. A good majority of fans at both the NFL and college level are probably rejoicing.

Saturday night, the New England Patriots lost a 20-13 decision to the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs. And, as you already know, Alabama did not reach the College Football Playoff and didn’t compete for a national championship at the college level.

According to a tweet from FOX, this will mark the first time since the 2013 that neither the Crimson Tide nor the Patriots have won a football title. It’s only the second time since 2010 neither team won a championship. That’s quite a streak to come an end for two of the most dominant teams of the decade.

Here’s a look at the titles those two teams have won during that time:

  • 2011: Alabama Crimson Tide (BCS national champion)
  • 2012: Alabama Crimson Tide (BCS national champion
  • 2014: New England Patriots (Super Bowl champion)
  • 2015: Alabama Crimson Tide (CFB Playoff national champion)
  • 2016: New England Patriots (Super Bowl champion)
  • 2017: Alabama Crimson Tide (CFB Playoff national champion)
  • 2018: New England Patriots (Super Bowl champion)

LSU and Clemson will meet in New Orleans for the College Football Playoff title on Monday, Jan. 13. The NFL Playoffs will enter the divisional round next weekend.
