Michigan has already lost a few members of its staff to other jobs since the team’s Citrus Bowl loss to Alabama, and there’s a chance there could be another significant change soon.

According to Mark Blaudschun of the Boston Globe, there’s a “major recruiting war” going on between Rutgers and Boston College over current Michigan linebackers coach Anthony Campanile. He has spent just one season on Jim Harbaugh’s staff in Ann Arbor.

Campanile came to Michigan from Boston College, where he spent three seasons under Steve Addazio as a defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator. When he arrived in Ann Arbor in 2019, Campanile was replacing former linebackers coach Al Washington who took a job with Ryan Day at Ohio State.

Prior to Michigan and Boston College, Campanile spent four years at Rutgers on Kyle Flood’s staff. In 2012 and 2013, he served as a defensive assistant. In 2014 and 2015, he was the wide receivers and tight ends coach for the Scarlet Knights. Campanile was also a player at Rutgers from 2001-04 under Greg Schiano, who was recently re-hired to lead the program again.

Jeff Hafley, who spent one season as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Ohio State, was named the head coach at Boston College following Addazio’s firing.

Following Chris Ash’s firing midway through the 2019 season, Campanile’s brother Nunzio served as the interim head coach.

Michigan has already lost special teams coordinator and secondary coach Chris Partridge to Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss. Defensive analyst Nate Woody also left the Wolverines for a chance to work on Jeff Monken’s staff at Army.
