The drama with the Dallas Cowboys and the head coaching situation has reportedly come to an end.

On Monday morning, FOX’s Jay Glazer reported that the Cowboys have hired former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy to replace Jason Garrett. The news comes a day after the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs concluded. An official announcement and press conference is expected to come later this week.

It was rumored since midway through the NFL season that owner Jerry Jones would part ways with Garrett after another subpar year in Dallas. The Cowboys finished the season with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs.

Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer was rumored to be a potential candidate for the job, and even told Colin Cowherd he would be interested in the position if it became available. However, Jones wanted a head coach with significant NFL coaching experience, and McCarthy fits that description.

McCarthy was the head coach of the Packers from 2006-18, leading Green Bay to a Super Bowl XLV title. In 13 seasons, McCarthy’s teams went 125-77-2 and reached the playoffs nine times.
