Corey Dennis was named the senior quality control coach at Ohio State in 2018. He has performed well at hid job.
So, naturally, the Buckeyes wanted to promote Dennis. You can call it a forced hand, but, Ohio State had a vacancy at its quarterbacks coaching spot due to Mike Yurcich leaving to become the offensive coordinator at Texas.
Now, it’s official that Dennis is replacing Yurcich:
Ohio State makes the hiring of Corey Dennis as quarterbacks coach official. Dennis takes over for Mike Yurcich, who became offensive coordinator at Texas. Dennis, Urban Meyer's son-in-law, was named senior quality control coach in 2018.

As Bill Rabinowitz mentions, Dennis is Urban Meyer’s son-in-law. Meyer obviously coached the Buckeyes for a number of years and remains a part of the program — while being a college football analyst for FOX.
But, make no mistake about it: Dennis can coach. LSU’s Heisman Trophy-winning QB Joe Burrow even talked about it.
Dennis is now the QBs coach in Columbus. And if all goes well, his rise as an assistant likely won’t stop there. The 2020 season will be his sixth with the Buckeyes.
