Dabo Swinney is at it again. The highly-criticized Clemson head coach has come under heavy scrutiny this year, arguing that his team has been overlooked and unfairly critiqued all year long.
Not many have had much sympathy for Swinney or Clemson, which has won 29 straight games dating back to last season. And, in fact, Swinney may catch a little more heat for his recent comments about the location of Monday’s national title game.
Clemson and LSU will meet in New Orleans to compete for the College Football Playoff national title. For Swinney, the game is essentially a road game for his team.
“This is a road game. We might as well be playing in Baton Rouge,” Swinney said, according to Stewart Mandel of The Athletic. “It would be like us playing for the national title in Greenville.”
New Orleans is just an 82-mile drive from Baton Rouge, and it’s expected to be a huge LSU crowd on hand for the battle of unbeatens. And while Swinney may be speaking truthfully, his comments won’t be well received after all he’s said throughout the course of the 2019 season.
Obviously, the national title game locations are determined years in advance, so there’s really nothing that could be done. LSU got hot in the right year and will get an opportunity to compete for a championship close to home.
