Apparently National Signing Day put a new team in the driver’s seat to win it all in 2017. At least it did in the minds of Las Vegas oddsmakers.

According to Bovada, the same team that was the overwhelming preseason favorite to win the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship is the early favorite to do it in 2017.

That team is Ohio State.

The Buckeyes surged past Alabama to claim the top spot in the updated odds. They jumped from a 12-to-1 favorite to win it all on Jan. 13 to a 6-to-1 favorite on Monday.

That came after Ohio State landed the No. 4 recruiting class in the country, according to 247sports. Alabama was the team that came out of National Signing Day with the top-ranked class, but the Tide stayed at 7-to-1 odds.

Nobody has to replace more talent than Ohio State, which lost nine underclassmen to the NFL draft. Still, the Buckeyes found themselves as the new No. 1.

They weren’t the only team to get a favorable post-signing day boost.

Michigan went from 12-to-1 odds to 15-to-2 — good for a tie for third — after finishing signing day by landing No. 1 recruit Rashan Gary. Michigan State also rose from 33-to-1 to 25-to-1 following Mark Dantonio’s highest-rated recruiting class since taking over in East Lansing.

The other B1G teams that received odds were Iowa (66-to-1), Wisconsin (66-to-1), Nebraska (75-to-1), Maryland (200-to-1), Northwestern (200-to-1) and Penn State (200-to-1).
