It’s never too early to start looking ahead to next season. So, before the national championship game between No. 1 LSU and No. 3 Clemson even kicked off, Stadium’s Brett McMurphy released his way-too-early college football rankings for the 2020 season.
McMurphy had just four B1G teams in his top 25, and just one team inside the top 10. Ohio State led the way at No. 2, and Penn State was the second-highest ranked team at No. 11. Wisconsin and Michigan also made the cut.
Obviously, it’s far from perfect so far away from next season, but it gives you an idea of what some are saying about the 2020 campaign. Here’s a look at where McMurphy had those six B1G teams ranked:
- No. 2: Ohio State
- No. 11: Penn State
- No. 12: Wisconsin
- No. 18: Michigan
The two biggest absences would be Minnesota and Iowa, both of which will finish the 2019 season ranked in the final poll.
A lot will change between now and next season, with players transferring, spring practices, potential coaching changes and injuries heading into the 2020 season. But this is McMuprhy’s look at the top 25.
