Report: Ex-Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema finalizing deal to join new NFL staff

Bret Bielema may soon have a more significant role in the NFL.
Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that the New York Giants are working to finalize a deal to add Bielema to the staff. The details of Bielema’s role were unknown at the time of report. Beliema has spent the last two seasons with the New England Patriots, serving as a consultant to the head coach in 2018 and defensive line coach in 2019.

Bielema brings a wealth of experience to New York, both as an assistant coach and as a head coach. Prior to his time with the Patriots, Bielema was a head coach at Wisconsin and Arkansas. He enjoyed great success with the Badgers from 2006-12, posting a 68-24 record, making seven bowl games and winning three B1G titles.
His time at Arkansas was a little rockier, compiling a 29-34 record over five seasons with the Razorbacks. His Arkansas teams appeared in three bowl games during that stretch.
This is Bielema’s first run in the NFL.
