BTN analyst Gerry DiNardo says Mel Tucker a ‘home run’ for Michigan State

Michigan State has found its next head football coach. After some disappointment along the search, the athletic department was finally able to land Colorado head coach Mel Tucker.

Last week, Tucker announced that he was committed to Colorado, turning down interest in the job at Michigan State. Early Wednesday morning, though, he had a change of heart and decided to take the job in East Lansing.

Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo calls it a “home run” for the Spartans.

“This is almost like hiring someone who was an assistant coach but is a head coach. Interim in the NFL, one year at Colorado. So if you look at his resume, this is a home run,” DiNardo said.

DiNardo also said that, with a large salary pool for assistant coaches, Tucker can go out and get some of the best assistant coaches in the game. Below are DiNardo’s full thoughts on the hire, as posted by BTN:

Tucker was the head coach at Colorado for one season, leading the Buffaloes to a 5-7 record.
