Matt McGloin may be the first quarterback in XFL history to be benched for being too candid.

Saturday, the New York Guardians struggled in the first half against the DC Defenders, trailing 12-0 through the first two quarters. While the Guardians were headed into the locker room, McGloin was stopped for a halftime interview. The quarterback was pretty direct with his comments, but it landed him a spot directly on the bench for the second half.

“We need to change the whole, entire game plan at halftime,” a frustrated McGloin said. “There’s just a lot going on right now. It’s embarrassing for us on offense, so there are things we want to fix and correct.”

McGloin had completed 5-of-13 passes for 32 yards and an interception through two quarters. He finished the day completing 8-of-19 pass attempts for 44 yards with two picks.
