A few college football programs try to stake claim to the term “Defensive Back University,” or “DB U” for short. Schools like Florida, Miami, LSU and Ohio State have all made the claim they have the best defensive backs in the country.

While those other schools bicker over owning the term “DB U,” former Buckeye defensive back Jeff Okudah knows the program with the most talent, pride and history in the secondary is Ohio State.

Friday, Okudah spoke with the media about several topics while at the NFL Scouting Combine. In a one-on-one segment on NFL Network, the former Ohio State star asked if the Buckeyes had an argument for the term “DB U.”

His response was priceless.

“We don’t challenge it, we don’t even concern ourselves with that anymore,” Okudah said, when asked if Ohio State challenged LSU for the title. “They can have ‘DB U.’ We call it ‘BIA,’ Best in America.”

Ohio State has seen plenty of its former defensive backs have incredible success at the college and professional level. Names like Denzel Ward, Marshon Lattimore and Okudah have helped make OSU one of the best destinations in the country for secondary players.

Okudah also explained what sets the Buckeyes apart.

“I think it’s just about trying to be better than the defensive back that came before you. The bar is always set so high at Ohio State,” he said.

Okudah is one of 11 Buckeyes attending this year’s NFL Scouting Combine. He’s considered by many to be a top five selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
