Former Minnesota defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr. has claimed another award.

On Thursday night, the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation named Winfield the Division I Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year. The former Golden Gophers defensive back will be honored on Sunday, April 26.

“Antoine Winfield Jr. produced numerous game-winning impact plays while leading Minnesota to its best season in recent years,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation, in a statement. “It is a special opportunity to honor Antoine at this year’s event.”

Winfield had a stellar season in 2019, totaling 88 tackles and intercepting seven passes, helping lead Minnesota to an 11-2 season, including a win over Auburn in the Outback Bowl. Winfield was the B1G Defensive Back of the Year and an All-American selection.

The Division I Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year award is presented annually to the top Division I college football player in Minnesota.
