Sunday night’s Iowa-Illinois contest was arguably the most intense matchup of the day. With a double-bye in the B1G Tournament on the line, the two teams were locked into a physical battle from start to finish.

But the game might have been a little too physical for Iowa’s C.J. Fredrick. The Hawkeye guard finished the game with just three points on 1-of-4 shooting. He had three assists and two rebounds in the 78-76 loss to the Illini.

After the game, Fredrick hinted at Illinois getting away with a little too much on the defensive side.

“To be honest, I’ve been playing basketball a long time, I have not been guarded like that ever,” Fredrick said after the game. “I don’t complain a lot, I think I was fouled every possession. They were grabbing me the entire game. I couldn’t get open. I was running off screens like crazy. I just felt like they weren’t giving me a position to have some room.”

Illinois has been known as one of the tougher defensive teams in the B1G this season, but Fredrick thinks there should have been a few more fouls called on the Illini throughout the course of the game.

Still, Iowa had chances to win late, but couldn’t come through. The two teams split the season series, and there’s potential for a rematch on Friday in the B1G Tournament.
