There are a lot of questions surrounding the sports world right now, and it spans across every sport at every level. On Wednesday, Michigan State Athletic Director Bill Beekman attempted to address some of those questions.
Beekman spoke with reporters about a multitude of topics regarding the current situation, with spring events being either canceled or postponed, including spring football. Right now, Beekman says there’s a possibility to make up at least some of those practices in the summer months.
Obviously, that could change at any time.
According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, Beekman said “there are options” to potentially make up the missed spring practice dates, though nothing has been set or established at the time. He also said that, as of now, the fall schedule is still on track.
Michigan State is one of two B1G teams to hire a new head coach in the offseason — along with Rutgers. Those spring practices would have been greatly beneficial for Mel Tucker, his staff and the players. If there’s a way to get some of those spring activities back, even in the summer, Beekman believes it would be beneficial.
“With a new head coach, we’d relish the opportunity to get our young men in for a couple days,” Beekman said.
Over the next days, weeks and potentially months, athletic directors and conference commissioners will work with the NCAA to try and make necessary adjustments to schedules. It sounds like there are already some ideas in the works.
