President Donald Trump will be speaking with major-league sports commissioners on a phone call this afternoon, according to a report from Adam Schefter.

Saturday morning, Schefter tweeted out that Trump will speak with all major-league sports commissioners at noon. There was no mention of what would be discussed during the phone call, though it’s fair to assume that a potential target date to restart sports will be a topic of conversation.

Not long after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in the United State, sports have taken a backseat to the rest of the issues the country is facing. The NCAA canceled its men’s and women’s March Madness tournaments and the spring sports seasons, while leagues like the NBA, MLB, PGA Tour and others associations have postponed all events for the time being.

While many states are issuing a shelter-in-place order for various time periods — some are weeks, while others are months — it still seems like it could be awhile before any sporting events return in the country. But there could potentially be alternate options to kick-starting events.

Two primary ideas have been playing games without fans, having leagues play games in a centralized location with minimal travel. Neither seems likely, but perhaps it’ll be another conversation among the president and those league commissioners later today.
