Former Maryland offensive lineman Ellis McKennie had positive news to share on social media on Monday.

A few weeks ago, McKennie revealed that his father had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and was in the hospital. He had previously been diagnosed with pneumonia, but McKennie said the symptoms had gotten worse.

On Monday, McKennie released a positive update, saying his father is off of a ventilator and is now breathing on his own. It’s the first time in three weeks he’s been able to do so, McKennie said.

“Update: Today they removed the ventilator and my dad began breathing on his own for the first time in weeks,” McKennie reported. “My mom even got to speak to him for the first time in 21 days and he said, ‘I love you, I am OK.’ He’s not quite out of the woods but it appears the hard part is behind us.”

That’s great news for McKennie, his father and his family. We continue to wish him a speedy recovery.
