Report: ESPN discussing potential to have Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit on Monday Night Football call

Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit have been associated with college football for decades now. Whether it’s been on College GameDay or in the broadcast booth for live coverage of games, the two voices have become part of the sport.
According to a recent report, though, the two could be in line for a move to the professional ranks. Andrew Marchand of the New York Post is reporting that ESPN is considering putting Fowler and Herbstreit in the broadcast booth for the network’s coverage of Monday Night Football games. It could happen as early as the 2020 season.
There was no mention in the report of how it would affect the two calling college football games. Fowler and Herbstreit are typically in the broadcast booth for the ABC Game of the Week every Saturday — which is usually a night game. Having the combo prepare for college football games on Saturday and then call an NFL game might be stretching the two pretty thin.
ESPN has been looking for answers for its Monday Night Football broadcast team. Earlier this offseason, it was reported that the network wanted to form a “super” broadcast team with Al Michaels and Peyton Manning, but there wasn’t much interest from Michaels or Manning. The network also went after CBS analyst Tony Romo.
So, ESPN is continuing to scramble and Fowler and Herbstreit are two names to keep an eye on as the network attempts to fill the void.
