Moving up: Former Penn State hoops star Calvin Booth reportedly lands NBA GM gig

Calvin Booth has been working in NBA front offices for nearly a decade now. After spending the past few years as an assistant general manager, the former Penn State star has been promoted to the general manager position.

Stadium’s Shams Charania reported on Saturday that the Denver Nuggets are planning to promote Booth to the general manager position. He had been serving as the assistant general manager of the franchise since 2017.

Prior to arriving at Denver, Booth had stops with the New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves. He will replace Arturas Karnisovas who accepted a position with the Chicago Bulls.

Booth played at Penn State from 1995-99 and developed into a second-round pick in the 1999 NBA Draft. The former Nittany Lion had a 10-year NBA career, playing for the Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Seattle SuperSonics, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings.

Booth played in 366 career NBA games with 83 starts, averaging 3.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.9 rebounds per contest.

During his career at Penn State, Booth was one of the most dominant big men in the B1G. For his career, Booth posted an average of 11.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game.
