Antoine Winfield Jr. is heading to Tampa Bay.

The Minnesota defensive back didn’t have to wait too long on Friday until he heard his name called in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Winfield was taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 45 selection and was the first Golden Gopher selected this year.

Winfield also becomes the highest-drafted player in seven seasons. In 2014, Ra’Shede Hageman was taken by the Atlanta Falcons with the 37th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Winfield battled some injuries during his college career but put left Minneapolis in impressive fashion. In helping lead the Gophers to an 11-2 year, Winfield totaled 88 tackles, seven interceptions, three sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass break-up in 13 games. For that, he was awarded the B1G Defensive Back of the Year Award.

Tampa Bay seems to like B1G prospects, using its first two picks in the NFL Draft to take former B1G stars. The Bucs took Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs with the 13th pick before selecting Winfield in the second round.
