The B1G’s leading receiver in 2019 is heading to Tampa to join Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.

Saturday, Minnesota wide receiver Tyler Johnson was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by Tampa Bay. He was taken with the 161st pick and is the third B1G player to get drafted by the Bucs this year. Johnson will join former teammate and safety Antoine Winfield Jr., who was selected in the second round by Tampa Bay.

Former Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs was selected in the first round by the Bucs with the No. 13 pick.

Johnson had a phenomenal final year in Minneapolis, leading the B1G in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches. He totaled 1,318 yards and 13 touchdowns on 86 catches for the Golden Gophers last season, and was a huge reason why the team finished the year with an 11-2 record.

Johnson had the opportunity to pursue a career in the NFL following the 2018 college football season but opted to return for one more year. That decision paid off, as he’s now the second Gopher to hear his name called during this year’s draft.
